Psychosomatic disorders, also known as somatoform disorders, are characterized by the presence of physical symptoms or medical problems that appear to have an organic or physiological basis, but are actually caused or exacerbated by psychological factors. In other words, these disorders involve a mind-body connection, where emotional stress, anxiety, or other psychological factors contribute significantly to the onset or severity of physical symptoms.
The primary goal is to address the underlying emotional and psychological factors that contribute to symptoms and help people learn strategies to manage stress and anxiety more effectively, which can lead to improvement in physical symptoms.
